December 9th to 12th - Tuscany

9 of December
Today we went to Siena. We drove to the area and found a parking spot. We then went up to the main city. It was a very nice town with beautiful streets. We went to the main square where we went to an information centre to find out some info on the area. We then went to a coffee shop and had hot chocolates. Because the place where we were staying didn’t have Wi-Fi we were not able to look up things about the area. So at the coffee shop there was Wi-Fi so we looked up about the area, one of the main things we were looking up was another place to stay because we were not happy where we were. We spent a long time there trying to work it out. We then moved on to where we went up a big cathedral. The cathedral was broken into two parts, one which they finished building which was the main cathedral and a façade which never got finished because of the plague. We went into the façade first which had a amazing view of the city at the top. The view was the main reason for going in the church but we did scan the rooms. After looking around the cathedral we went and bought gelato for lunch, not the healthiest option but a very yummy one. We then went back to the car where we then drove to one of the places which mum and dad were thinking of moving to. It was very nice but there was no one around expect for a gardener. Dad went to talk to the gardener who happened to be part of the family who owned the place. He let us into a room which was warm and comfy. We then had to go and get our stuff from our old apartment. When we got to it there was a plumber still working to fix the broken sink. The house smelt like a open sewer. We were very pleased that we weren’t staying another night. We got our stuff and left. It was nice to be in a house that was warm and had lots of space.

Today we went to Florence. We woke up in a toasty house. We then drove to Florence where we parked and then  went and tried to find our way around but it wasn’t until we found a lovely old man that we found our way. We went to the museum where a big statue of David from the bible was. It was amazing to see the detail in this body from it veins to his ribs and muscles. We were very impressed by the size of him and wondered how they got him through the door. We then went to a big cathedral which was in the middle of the city. We were amazed at how many people were there at the time of year. We then went to a bridge which was lined with jewellery shops on both sides. We were amazed at how many people were smoking and how dirty it was. In Aus. there is a small minority that smoke compared to Europe where it is normal to smoke. We then went to a park to have lunch it was a piece of sanity compared to the city behind it. We then went back to the car where we drove to a small town called San Gimignano which was a very cute walled city. We walked around and went into a few shops. I bought a leather wallet which was made in Florence. We then went back home for a nice dinner and a peaceful sleep out of the city and all its busyness.

Today we had a really quiet day. We stayed at home for most of the day. We finished typing up our blogs so we were up to date. We then went in the car to a small town called Volterra. This was the town we had pizza in on the 8th. It was a very beautiful town with a roman theatre. There is a stone found around this area called alabaster. It was a very soft stone so it was easy to engrave in. there were some beautiful creations made out of it. We liked looking in the shops while dad took some photos with the boys. We then met up at a shop which sells cross bows. They were a must buy even though they might not be allowed in Australia. We then went back home to have a nice dinner and a good sleep.

Today we drove to Pompeii. We packed up our house and drove along the freeway until we had a stop in a town called Amelia. It was a nice thing to be in a town with your name. It was built up on a hill so it had small steep streets which were so narrow cars could hardly fit through. We had lunch in a park and got back on the road for a long drive to Pompeii. Once we got off the freeway the gps took us on the most craziest streets in the world, there were people everywhere. It was hard to even get through an intersection without being honked. Once we got out of the crazy streets we were on a major road to our town where we had the same problem and it took us over an hour to find our place because the streets were so small. Finally a man helped us find our place. The owner wasn’t expecting us until tomorrow but was still happy to see us. Once we got to our room and settled town we went out to by dinner. On most of the streets in the town there were no foot paths so you had to walk on the road. It was a bit scary but we got through. Once we had dinner we went back to our house and had dinner and went to bed.
