November 6th to 8th - The Cotswolds

6 of November
Today we were going to meet dad’s cousin Prue in Bath so we had to tidy the apartment and leave early. Once we got the car out of the crazy parking lot it took an hour to leave London. Once we arrived in Bath late and soaked because of the rain we met Prue and went to the Roman Baths. They were amazing. We learnt so much about romans and the baths. We got to drink some of the water it had a weird taste and wasn’t something I would like to drink normally. We said good bye to Prue and drove to Stow where we stayed in a Youth Hostel. We had dinner in the Pub next door and we were the only ones there. It was a nice dinner and it was good to go to bed and sleep.

Today we went to Boughton on the water which was a very pretty. It had a littler river flowing through the town and little bridges crossing over the river. After that we drove to Winchcombe where we had hot chocolates and looked in the little shops. Then we drove to Oxford this is where some of the Harry Potters were filmed. We went and saw where the grand stair case was filmed and where the idea for the grand hall came from. After this we looked in some shops and went back to our car only to find that we got fined fifty pounds for being late! Mum and dad were a bit annoyed by this news and were silent for the trip home. Once we got home we went for a walk around the town we stayed in. It was very nice and sweet. We then went home and had an early dinner and bed.

Today we packed up and drove to our next stop. On the way we stopped in the town where Shakespeare grew up. We saw where he lived and was born. Did you know that his dad was a glove maker and it was likely that Shakespeare was his dad’s apprentice for a while. It was very well done and we enjoyed it a lot. We also saw the book which gave us half of the scripts to Shakespeare’s plays and without it we would not know they existed. We then saw his grave and found out that we don’t know where the bones of his son Hamlet are because Shakespeare didn’t have the money to buy him a grave. We then drove to our next stop. It was supposed to take 3 hours but instead it took us 6. It was not the best drive. We then went straight to bed when we arrived after such a long drive.

  1. A 50 pound fine! Do you think they might have been kinder to Aussies if you had some sort of sticker on the car to say you are not a local?
Interesting to find out so much about Shakespeare. Did you get to the Globe Theatre in London?
