November 12th to 15th - Scotland

12 of November
Today we woke up and we had chickens and the dog call Fern visit us. It was lots of fun because Fern would bring us a rock and want us to throw it for her. It was very cute and enjoyable. We then walked up to a fort which is right next to where we were staying. We found out that this is where Scotland began. We were able to see where they would make kings and we put our feet where kings put theirs. It was a lot of fun because Fern came with us and was trying to round us up! It was very windy on top of the fort which was lots of fun to play in.  Once we got to the bottom of the fort we went back home and hopped into the car and drove to a spot where there are some standing stones and a burial spot where about ten people were buried. As we were looking at them hail came pouring down so we ran back to the car. It was very funny because dad was scared of the rain and was the one running the fastest (note from Dad - not scared - just wanting to keep us all dry). Once it stopped we tried again to look at the burial site and the standing stones.   It was amazing because we were able to touch them and walk around them. On our way back to the car it started to rain again it was very cold and wet. We then went to a bridge where we played pooh sticks - it was lots of fun. We then went to a town called Crinan where there are canals for boats to travel up. Here there is a very clever way of getting boats to higher parts of ground. They use things called locks where they change the water level in one part of the canal so you can sail through. After exploring how they work we went home and had lunch and at three thirty we went beaver watching. This might sound strange but beavers live in Scotland and you are able to go and watch them. We walked around being very quiet hoping to get a glimpse of them. We did see the ripples of one in the water which was very exciting but other than that we didn’t see anything. It was still fun to go beaver watching and to see the scenery around the dam that they had made. After the adventures with the beavers it was nice to be home and have dinner.

Today we woke up early to catch a ferry to an island off the coast of Scotland called Mull. There was hardly anyone on the ferry which was quite nice. We went past lots of smaller islands on the way. I did think it would be fun to own an island because you could do whatever you want on it and have a boat to get to and fro from it and the main land. Once we got to the Isle of Mull we went on a scenic road around the island. It had some amazing country side and giant mountains. There was golden yellow grass on the mountain sides and in the wind would make it look like it was rippling like waves. There were sheep all over the mountain sides which gave you some perspective of how big the mountains were. We stopped at one point where Josh wanted to climb one of the mountains so we started to climb not knowing that it was the biggest on the island! We didn’t get to the top but we got a fair way up it. It was quite a climb but worth it because the views were beautiful. Once we got back down we drove on to a town on the other side of the island. On our way there we spotted some Highland calves. They were very cute and big. When we got to the town we hopped out and looked in a few shops. We found that because it was so small everyone knew everyone and we would have looked like tourists. We bought some chips and drove back for our ferry home. We were all very sleepy after our day so once we got home we had dinner and went to bed.

Today was a very slow and laid back. We got up at 8.30 and walked up to the fort. Mum, dad and I went out and looked at some towns. It was very interesting to see the different types of shops and how there were lots of the same types of shops. I wonder how any of them could get any business because there was hardly anyone around. We then drove back to the house. The boys had lots of fun and were alright. Fern came out and started to play with us which was lots of fun. She loved rounding us up and catching stones that we threw for her. We then had dinner and watched a movie. It was called Bruce Almighty and it was about a man how thought god was trying to do wrong to him so god gave him his powers. He realised that there was more to life than himself and he can’t make everything good for just one person. After that we went to bed for a needed rest.

Today we drove to a ferry and went over to Ireland. On our way on to the ferry a security lady asked “could the female please step out of the vehicle for a body search.” Mum was a bit nervous but dad just stood there and laughed. Once we got on to the boat we got out of the car and went upstairs. It was a pretty fancy. It had a spa, cinema and spots to play Xbox and IPad. It was very nice. Dad and l went to the shop and I spotted some lovely hand cream which I really wanted. When I talked to mum and dad about buying it but they kept saying not to buy it. They ended up telling me the reason why the didn’t want me to buy it was because they wanted to buy it for my birthday. It was very funny but I then understood why they didn’t want me to buy it. Once we got off the ferry we drove to the place where we were going to stay. Once we got to the place the manager showed us around and we got settled down. We then sat down and watched Chile vs England in soccer and then went to bed.
